Where is Divock Origi now? Between Florence, Rome, and Milan – What’s next for the AC Milan outcast?

Divock Origi has disappeared from the radar. The Belgian striker, formerly a cult hero for Liverpool, has made zero appearances. He's not even part of the squad at Milanello. No images or appearances on social media.

The centre-forward, along with Fodé Ballo-Touré, was demoted to Milan Futuro before the official start of the season. But, even in Daniele Bonera's team, the ex Lille player is nowhere to be seen. (As for Ballo-Touré, he played a match with Milan Futuro, and it went terribly for him, receiving a red card in his first outing).

Where is Divock Origi now?

Some say they’ve seen him in Florence, others in Rome. In fact, he has spent time in both cities. Milan has chosen not to have Origi train with the first team of head coach Paulo Fonseca and accepts that he stays in shape on his own, with a personal trainer, without any chance to contribute to the league or Champions League.

A project at its end. However, for tax reasons, Divock must remain in Italy for most of the year – more than half the days – because that is the only way he can benefit from the growth decree. And so we always return to the real oddity of this story: the contract.

How much does Divock Origi earn at Milan right now?

€300,000 a month; Origi was one of the two key signings for the Scudetto-winning Milan in the summer of 2022. He arrived for free from Liverpool, with whom he had won a Champions League, scoring a goal in the final and another iconic goal in the semifinal, in the 4-0 win over Barcelona that overturned a 3-0 deficit in Catalonia: the deflection from a surprise corner taken quickly by Alexander-Arnold. He signed a contract worth 4 million euros net per season until June 2026, a little over than €300,000 a month, writes La Gazzetta dello Sport.

Since then, things have gone terribly wrong. A first season under Pioli as a reserve, with two useless goals in the league and nothing in the Champions League. Then a change in management, from Paolo Maldini and Frederic Massara era to the one led by Giorgio Furlani and Geoffrey Moncada who decided to loan him to Nottingham Forest to save on his salary.

Divock Origi was never a starter in the Premier League with Nottingham Forest until December and scored only once in the FA Cup. His last game was in April. There was a moment in the summer of 2024 when a move to Turkey seemed possible, but nothing came of it and. At Milan Reorts, we also revealed to you that the player was close to making the move to the MLS as Los Angeles FC were keen on signing him, but nothing materialised from that interest either, unfortunately.

What is in Divock Origi's future?

Now it's up to him. Until January, things will continue like this: navigating blindly.

The player has always worked with a personal trainer, even in the years when he was 100% part of a professional club's squad, and he will continue to do so. At this point, more than Milan, it’s all up to him, to his desire to compete. If he agrees to lower his salary to restart, maybe in England, maybe in Belgium, he will find a team ready for the big risk.

Divock, after all, is only 29 and has shown he can perform at the highest level. But if he’s content to keep earning 4 million euros per year without putting in the hard work to justify it, he’ll have to do so from where he is, without ever getting close to stepping on football pitch for Milan, and so, he will continue to live, in Milan, Rome, Florence, who knows where, thinking about what it was like to score against Barcelona in the Champions League. June 2026, when his contract expires, is a distant future.
