Nelson Dida gave an interview to La Gazzetta dello Sport on the sidelines of the padel tournament organised for the twelfth edition of the Aspria Charity Open.
The former Brazilian goalkeeper spoke confidently about his former club Milan. Here are his statements:
On the win against Empoli:
"It was an important performance in a season start with ups and downs. I see more confidence and better communication between the coaching staff and the players. I hope this growth continues and that the results keep improving. Right now, looking at the standings is pointless; we need to focus on one match at a time, one point at a time. It’s essential to find that consistency in performance that has been lacking so far, but I’m optimistic in this regard. The defensive phase is improving, and Milan will rise again, as is the tradition of this club. They've dropped some points along the way, but I’m optimistic: step by step, they’ll get closer to the top."
On Rafael Leao, Dida said:
"I see him happier, and if Rafa stays focused and smiles, he can truly make a difference. He’s a fundamental player for the team, and it’s important that he feels the trust placed in him."
On Tijjani Reijnders:
"He’s a great midfielder, one of the best around. He does everything well and is also making a significant contribution in the attacking phase."
On Mike Maignan, Dida said:
"I have no doubts about Mike because I’ve coached him, and I’m convinced he’ll become the best in the world. Between the posts, he’s outstanding, and Fonseca’s style of play, which involves him even more, will highlight his skill with his feet. His renewal? He must stay, no doubt about it. We can’t lose him!"
On Paulo Fonseca:
"The team is absorbing his style of play, and it seems to me that the players are pressing opponents higher up the pitch. Fonseca’s work is evident."
