The Blues' resurgence this season under Enzo Maresca is greatly due to the manager’s doggedness to make bold changes in the squad, which has seen a great number of talents rise and fall in the pecking order.

Cairney Chukwuemeka, the versatile attacking midfielder who plies his trade for Chelsea, has been affected in that regard after failing to make a single appearance in the 2024/25 season thus far.

Reportedly set to join AC Milan in the coming transfer window, Italy could prove to be a fresh start for the Austrian-born English Nigerian footballer following recent woes with a knee injury.

Is Milan set to strike Gold yet again with another Blue?

Stamford Bridge has shown to be a good hunting ground for talent for the Rossoneri in recent times following shrewd acquisitions of:

  • Fikayo Tomori
  • Ruben Loftus-Cheek, and
  • Christian Pulisic

Now, Cairney Chukwuemeka may reportedly follow suit, according to Calciomercato.com. The 6ft 2in 21-year-old dynamic attacking midfielder known for his versatility, passing, and dribbling for his size could prove to be a good investment for Milan as a move to strengthen the squad currently 7th on the log in Serie A.

It is no surprise that Chukwuemeka has grown frustrated with life in London due to limited playing opportunities, totaling just four appearances in all competitions this season, with no appearance in the league. Chelsea manager Enzo Maresca has made a clear stance on Chukwuemeka’s situation in the squad, saying, "He's a very good player, but for the amount of players we have... we decided at the start of the season that it would be better for him to leave". "We wanted him to play 35 games rather than be here and play less games".

With midfield trio of Enzo Fernandez, Moises Caicedo, and Romeo Lavis all ahead of him in the pecking order, Chukwuemeka has found chances hard to come by, featuring last in the league off the bench on April 15, 2024, against Everton during a 6-0 win for the Blues.

A fresh start for the promising midfielder in an enabling environment like the San Siro could ignite a resurgence in his young career, surely a bet you can bank on.

Milan Looks to Strengthen and Build Momentum Under Fonseca...

The start of the 2024/25 season under Paulo Fonseca wasn’t one many faithfuls had hoped for following changes in the summer. Five points from a possible twelve after four games didn’t convince many that Fonseca was the right man for the job, with many calling for his sack.

Fast forward to the present, Fonseca has allayed such claims with famous wins against rivals Inter in the league and European giants Real Madrid at the Bernabeu in the Champions League.

The arrivals of Alvaro Morato, Emerson Royal, Youssouf Fofana, and Tammy Abraham on loan, amongst others, indicated what was to come under the Portuguese tactician after replacing Pioli in the summer. The pending arrival of Chukwuemeka would significantly boost Milan’s options in a midfield of Fofana, Bennacer, and Reijnders.

Yet again, another love affair between a Blue from London to Milan looks set to happen in the coming winter transfer window. But the Rossoneri need to act fast as Scottish giants Celtic were reported to also be after Chukwuemeka’s signature.

In the eventuality the deal goes through, it’d be a win-win situation for both parties involved, with Chukwuemeka finally getting first-team action and Milan receiving a versatile midfielder that could turn their fortunes around. While a move seems imminent, the deal is not yet done. Calciomercato, who’s keeping a close eye on the situation, had this to say:

"Deal done? Not yet, Milan is keeping the Chukwuemeka trail hot but is also working on other midfield objectives."
