Under Paulo Fonseca, Fikayo Tomori had recently become a regular on the bench, effectively losing his starting spot, which in previous seasons was almost exclusively his. The situation had become so clear-cut that the English center-back found himself at the center of transfer market discussions, with Juventus leading the race to snatch him from Milan.

Tomori's priority is staying with Milan
With Conceição’s arrival, however, things may have changed: the 27-year-old considers Milan his priority and is determined to prove himself under the new coach. For his part, Conceição wants to test him right away tonight while also sending him a subliminal message: that he believes in the former Chelsea player.
The one to lose out, at least this time, will be Matteo Gabbia. During yesterday's final training session, Malick Thiaw was tested alongside Tomori, as relayed via La Gazzetta dello Sport in this morning's print edition.
