Luca Marchegiani, former goalkeeper, speaks on Sky Calcio Club about the current form of Mike Maignan, who has often been off his game lately.

Here are his statements:
"He’s less influential. He has physical qualities and an extraordinary personality, very good in on-field situations, he almost never makes the wrong choice. Technically, he’s not exceptional, according to my concept of goalkeeping technique. Occasionally, he concedes avoidable goals due to these difficulties, like the goal he conceded in the Champions League. The captain’s armband? The moment you feel like the player everyone looks at, you feel the responsibility to do something more, and this can make you go a bit off track. Today, goalkeeping technique matters less; what matters is effectiveness."
Marchegiani continued to talk about Milan's Mike Maignan:
"I was surprised that against Torino, on the first goal, he made the wrong choice, something he never does. It’s a period where he’s clearly not able to be at ease. He came to replace Donnarumma, an enormous responsibility, but all focused on himself: he had a fantastic season. Now, if you also expend energy supporting your teammates, the team, and the coach, you risk not being at your best."
