Condo: “Milan sacking Maldini was an act of arrogance and short-sightedness”

Paolo Condò, a sports journalist, commented in today's edition of Corriere della Sera on Milan's defeat under Sérgio Conceição at San Siro against Lazio, 1-2, during the 27th matchday of the 2024-2025 Serie A season.

For Condò, Milan, now 9th in the standings and overtaken by Roma, "cannot continue playing in the toxic atmosphere in which they lost to Lazio yesterday."

The season, indeed, is getting worse. But, as emphasized by the esteemed columnist, "the league will last for another three months, and in between there will be the two Coppa Italia derbies. Something needs to be done to reach a truce with the fans because this has become a nightmare, and it makes no sense to live it like this until May."

In Milan - Lazio, according to Condò, the Rossoneri played a first half in which they were affected by the hostile attitude of the crowd and deservedly went behind, though they were spared by Lazio, who could have scored three goals. However, Milan fought back in the second half, coming close to equalizing several times and somewhat rallying their supporters.

"This Milan of Cardinale and Elliott will become a case study in the history of football owned by investment funds, a manual on the complex relationship between anonymous capital and popular love; a guide on what not to do when managing a club from afar while communicating poorly and ineffectively about a misguided shared vision," Condò commented on the situation at Milan.

The sports journalist then wrote then following about Milan:

"The link between these two worlds was Paolo Maldini, and getting rid of him was an act of infinite arrogance and short-sightedness." He added that now, the man who could ensure the truce previously mentioned is named Mauro Tassotti, the perfect interim manager if the club decides to end the Conceição experience now, as relayed via PianetaMilan.
