After missing the last match against Lecce due to suspension, Mike Maignan is ready to return as the starting goalkeeper tomorrow night against Como, guarding the Rossoneri’s goal. The French goalkeeper, who has become Milan’s new captain since Sergio Conceição took over as head coach, is not having a great season, and in recent months, criticism toward him has not been lacking due to some mistakes uncharacteristic of him, such as the one against Feyenoord in the Netherlands or the error that led to Thiaw’s own goal against Torino.

Only the signature is missing to finalise the Maignan deal...
As explained this morning by Corriere dello Sport, in recent months, Maignan has been negotiating with Milan for the renewal of his contract, which expires in 2026. He has reached a verbal agreement for an extension until 2028 with a salary increase (5 million euros per season). The only thing missing is the signature, which, however, has not yet arrived for several reasons. First of all, the Rossoneri club is reflecting on the French player’s performances, as he is no longer the decisive factor he was in the past. Additionally, his renewal will have to be reviewed by the new sporting director, who will be appointed in the coming weeks.
Other renewals
Therefore, Maignan’s renewal is practically done, but there are some aspects the club is evaluating, which is why official confirmation has not yet arrived—unlike the contract extension of Tijjani Reijnders until 2030, which was finalized in recent days. Besides the Frenchman, Christian Pulisic is also close to renewing his contract, having been decisive with a brace in the last victory against Lecce. Meanwhile, negotiations to extend Theo Hernández’s contract remain on standby, as he too is experiencing a season below expectations, much like Maignan.
