Milan does not provide players to the Italian national team, at least for now.
At the same time, for the return match in Germany on Sunday evening in the Nations League quarter-finals, coach Spalletti is ready to field three former Rossoneri players: Gigio Donnarumma in goal, Sandro Tonali in midfield, and the second-generation talent Daniel Maldini in attack.

The scorer of the temporary lead goal in the first leg against the Germans, played last Thursday at San Siro, is the most missed by fans, who remember him as a key figure in the Scudetto-winning season of 2022. A year later, Tonali was sold to Newcastle for nearly 60 million euros in the same transfer window that brought Milan’s two best-performing players this season: Tijjani Reijnders and Christian Pulisic, both signed for around 20 million euros each. If anything, the real mistakes made that summer were the signings of Yunus Musah and Samuel Chukwueze, who cost roughly the same amount.
Looking at the present, Milan has taken a path in the market that could lead to another Italian international: Samuele Ricci, who is set to reclaim his spot in midfield alongside Barella and Tonali on Sunday night in Dortmund. The Rossoneri executives have already made contact with the player’s entourage, who naturally views a potential move from Torino to Milan favorably. However, they must contend with possible competition from Inter and the demands of Urbano Cairo, who is asking around 30 million euros for Ricci. Should offers in that range arrive, the Torino president would let him leave, as he promised when the player signed a contract extension until 2028 last January.
