Interviewed by Quotidiano Sportivo, Leonardo, former Milan player, coach, and director, spoke about the situation at the Rossoneri club:
"Does Milan need more 'Milanismo'? But it was there—it was called Paolo Maldini. As a director, he won a league title and reached the Champions League semi-finals. Then he was let go, and with him, a big piece of passion. Now everyone has realized it: Milan feels empty, soulless. But these are cycles, and it will pass. Also because I believe the club has understood that they made a mistake."
Regarding the difficulties he encountered as a coach, the Brazilian explained:
"I've experienced certain situations, even though I didn’t coach for long. I started at Milan during a particular moment: Kaká had been sold, Maldini had retired. In short, a lot of changes. I began the season without winning for five or six matches. Everyone was telling me not to share decisions or tactics with the players, but instead, I went to the gym and told them… 'Let's play recklessly and take risks.' In reality, the defenders didn’t want to (he smiles), but over time, they got used to the idea. It was a gamble, true, but many said that the '4-2-fantasy' was beautiful and entertaining. It all started in the third Champions League match in Madrid—we fielded a very attack-minded team and won 3-2. That had never happened at the Bernabéu before..."
