The Portuguese forward made a strong impact after coming on at halftime and nearly helped Milan come back from a two-goal deficit. It was from his feet that the chance for Gimenez in the 59th minute originated, as well as the penalty for the foul on Theo Hernandez and Jovic’s goal to make it 2-1.
La Repubblica explains today the reasons behind Sergio Conceicao’s decision. In fact, the coach considered Leao fatigued after playing extensively for Portugal. Unlike him, Joao Felix was well-rested and had delivered positive performances before the international break against Como, whereas his compatriot had struggled. The decision was therefore based on managing energy levels ahead of the derby and on meritocracy. Against Inter, the number 10 will return to the starting lineup, ready to make an impact from the first minute.
