Fabio Paratici is getting closer and closer to becoming Milan’s new sporting director. The contract signature has not yet arrived because there are still some issues to discuss, but everything suggests that he will be the definitive choice of the Rossoneri. And his first decision, as soon as he is appointed sporting director, will concern the coach's position, which at the end of the season will be left vacant by Sergio Conceição.

Is Roberto De Zerbi in pole position to become the new AC Milan head coach?

As reported this morning by La Gazzetta dello Sport, after two foreign coaches, the club will return to having an Italian coach. At the moment, the favorite seems to be Roberto De Zerbi, the current coach of Marseille, so much so that his agent, Edoardo Crnjar, has already met Paratici in recent days in Milan. The former Sassuolo manager is liked both because he knows the Rossoneri environment well, having grown up in the club's youth sector as a player, and because he is a lover of beautiful football, with tactical ideas in line with the Rossoneri's history.

It remains to be seen what the margins would be to snatch him from Marseille, a club with which he signed a three-year contract last summer and with which he is in the race for a spot in the next Champions League, as relayed via Milannews.it.

Other profiles on the AC Milan radar:

De Zerbi is one of the most interesting emerging coaches around, but at the club's headquarters, they could also decide to go for a coach already accustomed to leading a big team and winning. For this reason, the names of Antonio Conte and Massimiliano Allegri remain on the list of directors, even though they are behind the former Sassuolo coach. On paper, the coach from Livorno is the easiest to reach because he is currently without a team, just like Maurizio Sarri and Roberto Mancini, who are currently in the second row but still worth keeping an eye on. The future of the Rossoneri bench will therefore be Italian, but beware of exceptions, such as Pep Guardiola, with whom Paratici has an excellent relationship. For now, it is still just rumors, but never say never…
