Christian Abbiati, the former legendary goalkeeper of Milan with whom he won everything, was the protagonist of the latest episode of "Storie di Serie A," a segment of Radio Serie A. The former Rossonero goalkeeper spoke about his passion for Milan as a true fan and more. Here's what he had to say, as relayed via Milannews.it:
On the late Sinisa Mihajlovic:
“Sinisa had a great personality, a man with a big heart. It’s a shame the ending didn’t go well, but I think he had a great season. And then he had the courage to give Gigi a chance, which isn’t something everyone would do, but I remember it as a positive year for me, even though it was my last. I think I played 1-2 games, but I was ready to help everyone.”
Abbiati continues:
“I was very introverted on the field because for me, Milanello was sacred. The goalkeeper coach I connected with the most? I’ll mention one person, Villiam Vecchi, who unfortunately is no longer with us, but at every stage, I’ve always had people who helped me a lot.”
On his experience as Milan team coordinator from June 2017 to July 2018, Abbiati said:
“Yes, for me it was a complicated experience because you have a role where you’re in between the coach and the sporting director. You don’t really know how to move, and if you make a wrong move, a player might think you’re being a spy. It’s difficult. Then, I was with the Chinese ownership, and I didn’t get along, so I preferred to do something else. If they were to ask me to do it again? I listen, as I’ve always said, but 90% of the time, I’d stick to my own way. They taught me to always listen to everything.”
