Today’s Milan is ninth in the league and out of the Champions League: it cannot be deemed sufficient. Tomorrow’s Rossoneri team— as emphasized by President Scaroni — has the obligation to become competitive again both in Italy and Europe. The Rossoneri brand needs international appeal: currently, the team is trendy only in certain countries.
In the Netherlands, for example, thanks to the goals and celebrations of Tijjani Reijnders. A "universal" midfielder on the pitch, capable of everything — scoring, tracking back — and off it as well. His performances and stats this year (44 total matches, 13 goals this season, 4 assists to complete the picture) earned him a well-deserved contract extension. The agreement’s expiration has been pushed forward by two seasons: from 2028 to summer 2030. Having arrived at Milan only a year ago, Tijjani was received at the club headquarters in early March to extend his Rossoneri commitment and was granted a significant salary increase — from the original 1.7 million euros to 3.5 million euros per season for the coming years. For Milan, Tijji turned down the interest of several other major European clubs.

Christian Pulisic, the next one
At a great club like Milan, after experiences at Dortmund and Chelsea, Christian Pulisic has finally made his mark. Alongside Reijnders, he is the only Rossonero who can claim to have a guaranteed starting spot even in the new era. "Captain America" is a valuable attacking wildcard: from right winger to attacking midfielder, as he will play tonight against Fiorentina. His season stats (40 games, 15 goals, 9 assists) also support the case for a contract renewal. Having arrived from London in the summer of 2023, the club believes he deserves to stay at least until June 2029. The agreement is already in place — only the official announcement and the traditional celebrations are missing. A new salary is also ready for him: from 4 million euros to 5 million euros net per year.
What about AC Milan's Frenchmen?
There is a more pressing deadline concerning two of the team's high-profile French players: Theo Hernandez and Mike Maignan. Evaluations are proceeding in parallel: the performances of both have led to a clear halt in talks about an extension.
For Theo, the chances have practically dropped to zero: he will not renew, and it is unlikely his Rossoneri stint will continue beyond next summer. If no buyers are found, there’s the risk of him leaving on a free transfer in a year — a risk the club is willing to take rather than meet his multimillion demands. Maignan is under observation: a new, richer contract must be earned on the field, with performances that live up to expectations. Otherwise, it will be time for renewal in the goalkeeper position as well, as per La Gazzetta dello Sport.
