Milan’s problem is called Origi – Out of sight, still on the books

Divock Origi — a name you may have forgotten is still part of Milan's team.

The truth is that not much is known about Divock. The Belgian forward, who returned in the summer from his negative loan experience at Nottingham Forest, has essentially been out of the list for several months. The Rossoneri tried to offload him elsewhere, he was demoted in rank, and for a short time he trained with Milan Futuro like Fodé Ballo-Touré. If the Senegalese, however, at least managed to make one appearance, the same cannot be said for the former Liverpool player, who has effectively disappeared from the radar.

Divock Origi, in fact, does not appear on any match sheet this season, neither for the first team nor for Milan Futuro. And in reality, there is no information available about him. At the economic level, however, this situation weighs on the Rossoneri side. The Belgian, as of today, is reportedly earning around 4 million euros per season, the same salary, to be clear, as Theo Hernandez and Christian Pulisic. While the latter two, to varying degrees, are contributing to the club's cause, the Belgian has been out of the squad for ages. Given that there is no certainty about what he is doing these days, the situation is at the very least unusual, as relayed via PianetaMilan.it.

What could Origi's future hold?

This is another problem. His contract with Milan in fact expires on June 30, 2026, which further complicates things. If he were to behave as he did in the last transfer window, and insist on not leaving the Rossoneri, he would remain at least one more season on the same salary without playing again. Could he be reintegrated into the squad? Nothing is certain, clearly, especially with the coaching change that seems increasingly likely. The management, however, remains the same, and it’s unlikely Divock Origi will get another chance. But if an agreement that satisfies everyone is not reached, the risk of him staying at a high cost becomes an increasingly plausible scenario.
