Bologna did not need to present itself as a "team that makes the world tremble," according to the well-wishing quote from President Mattarella. Nor did it need to play as "they do only in Paradise," words displayed on the banner of the curva before the anthem. Bologna simply played a beautiful, very beautiful match against an ugly and disorganized Milan, few ideas but confused.

The Coppa Italia goes to Bologna deservedly, and it is an immense joy for all those who admire well-played football by a coach who has matured and improved year after year. Football interpreted with generosity and selflessness by young talented players. Football built with competence by a club that sold the three pieces that seemed indispensable (Thiago Motta, Zirkzee, and Calafiori) and yet has put together a real, beautiful team. Winning.

Beyond the summary of Bologna's triumph, some tactical notes in no particular order. With the three-man defense not always "reinforced" by the wingbacks (Jimenez and Theo), for sixty minutes Milan could not avoid the individual duels Tomori-Ndoye, Gabbia-Castro, and Pavlovic-Orsolini. But the most evident problem occurred in midfield, where Fofana was physically contained and Reijnders technically. Thus Jovic and Pulisic tried to almost improvise as playmakers, but with little success.

Bologna with a high defensive line - as usual - but with particular attention on Milan's strong side, the traditional left with the inspired Leao as the terminal point. After an hour, Conceicao switched to a back four, exactly as he had done in last Friday's league preview. And this time Italiano reinforced the defense, even sacrificing Orsolini and inserting Casale (surprise of surprises: practically marking Leao man-to-man). And while Pobega became the equivalent of Fabbian, in attack Castro and Ndoye became a pair instead of two-thirds of a trident, until they were replaced by Odgaard and Dallinga with identical duties.

Technical notes, also in appearance disorganized and not in order of importance.

Orsolini was ordinary in the offensive phase but monstrous in his all-field dedication: Spalletti will have noticed... Fabbian was good in doubling up in midfield cover but without denying himself flair in possession, also in the name of the unpredictability "made in Italiano" (49th different lineup this season). Beukema, a clean and intelligent defender: for a big team. And the list can continue with compliments summarized for everyone, from Holm (tireless) to Miranda (masterful against Pulisic), passing through Lucumì (Jovic or Gimenez, no difference). In midfield, Freuler and Ferguson were a hinge that never jams. Up front, bubbles from Castro and champagne uncorked by Ndoye. And confetti of glory also for the substitutes, as described by Calciomercato.com.

Thus Vincenzo Italiano interrupts the Viola's series of defeats in finals and gives himself a satisfaction to share with the moving Bologna fans. The Italian managerial trio (Fenucci-Sartori-Di Vaio) proves that an exciting and winning team can be built even with an American, or rather Italo-Canadian, ownership, to be precise. Beyond the geographical precision, there is more, and the basic concept does not change: Bologna has had a great club for some years, Milan does not. And what's more, the Rossoneri went into a short circuit with Conceicao and Joao Felix, both clients of Jorge Mendes, while Bologna was going to Paradise, helped bring Milan to hell.
