There is only one way to define Milan’s season, namely a failure. With the defeat in the Coppa Italia final against Bologna, at the end of a very poorly played match, the Rossoneri—who this year were never in the running for the Scudetto and exited the Champions League far too early—have definitively hit rock bottom. In the post-match, (finally) came also the admission from the club: “We cannot deny it, this is a failed season. Despite the Supercoppa victory, we are far from the objectives we had set for ourselves. We still have two games, we will try to close in the best way possible. Even if we are far from the targets we had set at the beginning of the year. Thirdly, we share the disappointment of the fans. Various mistakes were made and we will have to look forward and correct them in order to return where we executives and the fans expect to be,” said CEO Giorgio Furlani.

Milan management...
It is necessary to start over and rebuild almost everything, but it must be done in the right way, perhaps also with strong decisions and above all with competent people. The last two seasons have shown how much, for example, a sporting director is missing. After months of casting, however, the hypothesis is becoming stronger that in the end no one will arrive and that, in fact, the club’s corporate structure will remain as it is now.
This would already be a huge mistake. A lot of time has already been lost, now an important effort is needed to bring into Milan an experienced executive who knows what to do and how to move to rebuild everything in the shortest time possible. And then it will be fundamental to establish once and for all who is in charge and who makes decisions, because, as this season demonstrates, too many heads only lead to great confusion.
The coaching decision...
The mistakes made by the club have been many, including the one regarding the bench: after Pioli, a big name was needed and instead first they tried to get Lopetegui and then, after the fans' protests, they turned to another coach not of the first rank like Paulo Fonseca. Even the choice of Sergio Conceiçao at the end of December did not bring the desired results, so much so that his farewell at the end of this season is already written. What is important at this point is not to repeat the same mistake as a year ago: Milan must have a great coach, so no more bets or second choices, they need a top-level coach to whom they can entrust the restart of the club.
Milan's players and the transfer market windows...
If the club has made many mistakes, the players are by no means exempt from blame for the team's collapse either. The Rossoneri squad is by no means to be discarded, on the contrary, there are several players to start again from (and therefore to lock down at all costs like Reijnders and Pulisic). Without the Champions League, it is clear that there will be important sales to cover the missing revenues. With less money available, even more so is needed a good sporting director, capable of still bringing in the right reinforcements. All of this with the indications of the new coach, because it is he who must say what is needed and what is not. In recent days, Furlani declared that “the market is done by the club,” but it must not be so, otherwise the result is a failed season like the one which, fortunately, is finally coming to an end.
