Interviewed by La Gazzetta dello Sport, former Rossonero Fabio Capello commented on the arrival of Igli Tare at Milan as the new sporting director:

"Tare is a good choice. There was talk about increasing the Italian identity both on and off the pitch: Igli is Albanian by birth, but in footballing terms he's now one of us. Sure, he's arriving a bit late and immediately finds a hot potato in his hands. I'm talking about the search for the new coach. Do the Rossoneri also need a coach who provides guarantees? Obviously yes. But if even Conte is unavailable and you let others beat you to Allegri, I don’t really see anyone else on the horizon. That’s why it was necessary to move earlier, have clear ideas, and act.
"A name that intrigues me? If we have to exclude those already mentioned and go for a more emerging profile, I’d go with Fabregas. I like his football, and at Como he’s shown some interesting things. He already seems sufficiently ready to me."
Capello continued:
"Fabregas has proven he can handle Serie A very well. And then, honestly, among the free coaches we have, who’s left? We’ve already mentioned Allegri, and we know that Sarri doesn’t have a great relationship with Tare after their time together at Lazio. With the other names, you don’t really reduce the level of risk."
