Since yesterday afternoon, Igli Tare is officially the new sporting director of Milan. The new Rossoneri executive has wasted no time and immediately got to work because there is a fundamentally important decision he must make right away: choosing the new coach.

Several names have been linked to the club, but unfortunately, one by one, they are all slipping away because the Milan management is clearly behind schedule, having wasted too much time on the endless casting process for the sporting director.
Who's left for Milan?
As La Gazzetta dello Sport explains this morning, Vincenzo Italiano, Tare’s favorite, is close to renewing with Bologna, while Massimiliano Allegri is in Napoli's orbit in case Antonio Conte leaves, and Conte is ready to return to Juventus. Roberto De Zerbi will stay at Marseille, just as Gian Piero Gasperini is unlikely to leave Bergamo. So who remains for Milan? The feeling is that, at this moment, the fate of the Rossoneri club depends on what happens elsewhere. New ideas are therefore needed, and that is exactly what Tare and the other Milan executives are working on.
Thiago Motta is an option for Milan
The most active alternative path is the one leading to Thiago Motta, coming off a disappointing spell at Juventus: the club had already pursued him at length a year ago after his great season with Bologna, but the Bianconeri were quicker to move and ended up bringing him to Turin. In the background, the name of Roberto Mancini still lingers, free since his dismissal as head coach of Saudi Arabia last October. It's more complicated, however, to think about Maurizio Sarri, whose relationship with Tare significantly cooled during their shared experience at Lazio, or other young and promising coaches like Francesco Farioli.
