As soon as the 2024/25 season ended (even though the formal deadline is June 30), Milan immediately took action with two moves that give a new and clear direction to the sporting project: the appointments of Igli Tare and Massimiliano Allegri as the new sporting director and coach.
In recent weeks, as the disaster that this season turned out to be increasingly took shape, Furlani spoke about the real possibility of making changes in order not to repeat the mistakes made in the recent past. While waiting to see what the transfer market will bring—especially what it will take away—these two choices seem to make logical and sporting sense.

Now Milan will need to be solid again, compact, and with a common line followed by everyone. There has been much talk, rightly so, about the unfortunate management decisions of recent seasons, but it is always worth stressing that those who take the field have the power to influence and decide much more. The choice of Massimiliano Allegri—a man of infinite experience and credibility, a centralizing figure and wise manager—goes exactly in this direction. Balance must be restored in a dressing room that, over the past year, has seen all sorts of things, from mutinies to a lack of professionalism.
Allegri and Tare have clear ideas, and that’s why they will soon resume contact with Mike Maignan for the goalkeeper’s contract renewal. The Frenchman’s contract expires on June 30, 2026: in recent months, a verbal agreement had been reached, but it was never finalized. Since January, Milan has put everything on standby to take the necessary time to make all the evaluations needed, from a sporting and economic perspective. Maignan did not experience his best season, especially in the Champions League, but in the final stretch he bounced back clearly, showcasing important and non-trivial saves.
Not to mention the armband factor: with Conceição, he became the designated captain, confirming the great weight he carries within the Rossoneri locker room. In a transfer window that will see many changes at Milan—see Theo, who also has a contract expiring in 2026 but now has no chance of renewal—starting again from Maignan means restarting from one of the few solid, respectable, and respected cornerstones at Milanello. Allegri has already made it clear that he is fundamental for him.
