Luka Modrić is very likely to become a new AC Milan player: the deal is nearing completion. The Croatian superstar, born in 1985, couldn’t resist the call of the club he has always publicly supported since childhood and has accepted the offer to join the Rossoneri. This could very well be the final chapter of his illustrious career.

Medical tests early next week

An agreement has been reached between the club and the player, and Modrić is expected in Milan at the beginning of next week for the routine medical examinations. Monday is shaping up to be the likely day: that evening he’ll be playing in a World Cup qualifier between Croatia and the Czech Republic, but he may travel to Milan during the day with special permission. Otherwise, the visit will be postponed to Tuesday. Modrić has agreed to a one-year contract, with an option for a second year, worth nearly €4 million per season. He will complete his time with Real Madrid at the Club World Cup and, after a vacation, will be available to Max Allegri, as per Milannews.it.

Tare was decisive

Igli Tare played a key role in the successful outcome of the deal. The Rossoneri sporting director personally took charge of the negotiations, first pushing internally at the club and getting the green light from Max Allegri, then traveling to Croatia yesterday. Tare visited Rijeka, where the Croatian national team is training, and met Modrić to present Milan’s offer. The nearly 40-year-old star accepted and will wear the Milan shirt — a move aimed at raising the level of experience and leadership in the locker room, something that was missing in the just-ended season. The deal also received the blessing of Carlo Ancelotti, currently head coach of Brazil but Modrić’s manager for many years at Real Madrid. Allegri phoned him, and Ancelotti gave his full approval to the transfer.
