Giuseppe Sala, mayor of Milan, gave a long interview to La Stampa in which he spoke about various topics, including the future of San Siro and the new stadium that Milan and Inter would like to build together. This is the opinion of the Milanese mayor:
"Where will Inter and Milan play in ten years? In a new stadium in the San Siro area. The important thing is that Serie A does not move to another municipality. We are racing to sell the old San Siro and the surrounding areas by this summer. The ambition is to build a new facility for the 2032 European Championship."
In recent weeks, Sala had spoken to Italpress about Milan and Inter’s project in the following terms:
"I think the final project for San Siro will come after the sale is finalized, also because we are still discussing — and this is not a minor issue — the location of the facility. The clubs had proposed a location which, as we know, the City Council advised reconsidering to move it farther from residential areas, so work is ongoing. For us, it is essential to have it now, but it is also essential to have guarantees regarding what the City Council has stated. For example, regarding capacity — to ensure affordable ticket prices for fans, at least 70,000 seats are needed."
