The paths of Mike Maignan and AC Milan have never been so close to parting ways. The French goalkeeper has ended up in Chelsea’s sights—a team that has qualified for the next Champions League and offers the chance to play in the competition. This, combined with a contract situation that now seems compromised, could lead the Rossoneri captain to leave Milanello after four years. In the meantime, Milan is already drawing up a list of potential successors.

Maignan wants to leave

This morning, Tuttosport attempts to take stock of Mike Maignan’s future, which as of today, appears far from Milan. Massimiliano Allegri hopes to patch things up—he wants to keep the player and has already made this known to the club. The issue, however, stems from further back and specifically concerns the failure to renew the contract. In January, everything had been set for a three-year extension plus one, at 5 million euros per season; then, suddenly, negotiations were cut off, and the Frenchman did not appreciate this sudden U-turn. For this reason, Mike Maignan's current intention is to leave Milan, while still allowing the club to cash in on his sale.

Offer too low

In this context, Chelsea has found fertile ground, having set its sights on Maignan and looking to exploit the thorny contract situation to negotiate a lower price. With no renewal and a contract expiring in 2026, the London club hopes to gradually lower Milan’s asking price from 30 million euros. At the same time, the Rossoneri club seems firm in its stance and will attempt to mend the situation. However, it is inevitable that on the fourth floor of Casa Milan, discussions have already begun about possible replacements for Maignan, in order not to be caught unprepared. The two most liked names are Mile Svilar—whose contract with Roma is expiring, though the asking price is 40 million—and Marco Carnesecchi of Atalanta. More affordable options include Vanja Milinkovic-Savic from Torino, who has a 20 million euro release clause, and Caprile, who is expected to leave Napoli. Watch out also for foreign tracks: Chevalier from Lille is appreciated, and Diario AS today put forward the name of Kepa Arrizabalaga, who played at Bournemouth on loan from Chelsea and could be available via a 5-million-pound (around 6 million euros) release clause.
