Despite continuous contacts in recent days and hours, Milan and Chelsea have not managed to reach an agreement for Mike Maignan, who, therefore, at least for now, will remain a Milan player. The two clubs have not been able to bridge the gap between demand and offer: the English side did not budge from their 15 million euros offer, while the Rossoneri club did not lower their asking price. It was thought that a deal could be closed around 20 million euros, but that was not the case.

Maignan wanted to move to Chelsea...
Chelsea wanted to sign him in this extraordinary transfer window to bring him to the Club World Cup, which will be played from June 14 to July 13 in the United States. Maignan, who was not at all pleased with Milan's behavior in the contract renewal negotiations (a preliminary agreement was reached in February, but then the Rossoneri did not follow up for the signature), pushed hard for a transfer to the London team, but in the end, his wish was not fulfilled, as pointed out by Milannews.it.
What happens now for Maignan at AC Milan?
There are three scenarios: in a few weeks, the "classic" summer transfer market will open, and thus Milan will have two months to try to find a buyer for Maignan (it remains to be seen whether it will still be Chelsea or if another interested club will emerge). A further attempt by the Rossoneri to reopen the renewal negotiations and try to reach a new agreement cannot be ruled out, although what has happened in recent months risks leaving an indelible mark. The scenario that the club management absolutely wants to avoid is the Frenchman staying at Milanello without an extension and thus his departure in a year for free (as early as January, he could sign with another team). We will see what happens; certainly, this is another thorny issue that is not easy to resolve for Milan.
