That the relationship between Mike Maignan and Milan is no longer what it once was is well known, especially since the poor handling of his contract renewal led the Frenchman to explicitly request a transfer from the club during the short transfer window that preceded the Club World Cup. In the end, Milan and Chelsea did not reach any agreement, but the French goalkeeper’s intentions remain unchanged.
Maignan will not extend his contract with Milan and will play, if he stays, with the current deal expiring in June 2026. That is, unless Max Allegri manages to win over the heart and mind of the Rossoneri captain, also mending the broken relationship with the club. To try to do so, writes Tuttosport this morning, the new Milan coach will unveil a secret weapon: Claudio Filippi.

After more than a decade of experience at Juventus, the 59-year-old Roman will follow Massimiliano Allegri in this new adventure at Milan. We're talking about one of the most respected goalkeeping coaches in Italy and worldwide, as well as a true institution in his role. At Juventus, Filippi always managed to create a united and cohesive group among his assistants and the goalkeepers, without envy or jealousy.
Now he will be tasked with bringing "Magic Mike" back to the level he was at during the 2021–22 Scudetto season, elevating him in all four aspects of goalkeeping: goal protection, space coverage inside and outside the box, and play-building.
