Luca Bianchin, journalist for La Gazzetta dello Sport, published a video on the pink newspaper’s Instagram page commenting on the role Ruben Loftus-Cheek could have under Massimiliano Allegri. His words:
"Ruben Loftus-Cheek can be the key player in Allegri’s Milan. The Englishman started only ten games last season with Milan: under both Fonseca and Conceição he was peripheral. Zero goals throughout the season. And yet, look at Milan’s new midfield: without Tijjani Reijnders, Allegri will need a player capable of breaking through, restarting plays when needed, and adding physicality. Modric is a phenomenon, but he's not that type of player, and even Fofana is only partly that—at Milan, he’s mostly developed the defensive side of his game."
Bianchin continues to talk about Ruben Loftus-Cheek:
"Loftus-Cheek, on the other hand, is at a crossroads: he’s already succeeded twice in his career in becoming a complete player. Once under Pioli, who wanted him at Milan and practically always played him—one Champions League night against PSG, Loftus-Cheek looked like Superman; the other time was at Chelsea under Sarri, who is now back at Lazio and has said the midfield is a bit thin. Loftus-Cheek is a bit of a unique character: he talks about meditation, reads books by the Dalai Lama, and his last public appearance was at Roland Garros. He’s a big tennis fan, and tennis offers a good metaphor: at Milan he dominated the first set—ten goals in his first season—and got crushed in the second with a really disappointing year. The third set is the decisive one. It starts in two Mondays."
