Fiorentina will not exercise the €17 million buy option by June 24, but they are not giving up on Albert Gudmundsson. A meeting with Genoa is scheduled for the middle of next week: the Viola are considering renewing the paid loan deal.
Gudmundsson’s first season in Florence did not live up to the high expectations: 6 goals in 24 Serie A appearances, and just 2 in 8 matches in the Conference League. Albert was unable to fully showcase his talent due to numerous injuries. But Fiorentina's doubts mainly stem from an ongoing legal case in his home country (a final verdict is expected no earlier than next October).
Albert is a versatile player, a decisive “number 10” who in the past came close to joining Inter. Roma, Atalanta, and especially Bologna have inquired about him with both Genoa and his entourage. Gudmundsson has a good market in Serie A and is expected to stay in the league, whether at Fiorentina or elsewhere.
Fiorentina's Gudmundsson offered to Milan?
As per Calciomercato.com, in recent days, a transfer summit took place at Casa Milan between Gudmundsson’s agent and Igli Tare. The 28-year-old Icelandic attacking midfielder was offered to the Rossoneri under favorable conditions: Genoa would be happy to do a deal with Milan. However, the response so far has been lukewarm, and the matter may be revisited later on.
