Emerson Royal’s adventure with the Milan shirt already seems to be nearing its end.

The 15 million euros investment plus bonuses has proven to be excessively costly for a player who, in reality, never managed to integrate into the team’s dynamics. A signing that puzzled many due to its cost and timing, and which now appears to be a choice inconsistent with Milan's technical and tactical needs.

The Brazilian, who arrived with high expectations, was never able to establish himself. His performances were lackluster, often falling short of expectations, but what likely weighed on him was also the complicated context he found himself in: a Milan side in continuous search of identity, dealing with structural difficulties and a tense atmosphere that certainly didn’t help his integration last summer.

Thus, without leaving any significant mark, Emerson Royal is already ready for a change of scenery. In fact, the full-back is said to have reached a verbal agreement with Real Betis, the club where he previously played between 2019 and 2021, leaving behind a positive impression, as pointed out by Milannews.it.

The parties are now working to define the terms of the transfer. The most likely option is a loan, but it remains to be seen whether it will be a dry loan or one with a purchase option in favor of the Andalusian club. Emerson has already expressed his enthusiasm for returning to La Liga, personally pushing for the deal to be finalized.

In the coming days, new contacts between Milan and Betis are expected to iron out the final details. The shared goal is to close the deal quickly so that the player can begin summer training as soon as possible with what could become his new (old) team.
