Emerson Royal and Milan are set to part ways after just one year together: the Brazilian right-back was one of the Rossoneri’s first signings last summer, arriving from Tottenham for around €15 million. His season on the pitch was, at times, disastrous, and his performances were completely inadequate. With Walker’s arrival, Jimenez climbing the ranks, and a long injury suffered at the end of January, Royal has not seen the field since.

Today, the most obvious solution seems to be a separation: Walker will not stay at Milan, and the club will definitely act in the market, but the feeling is that there’s no room for Royal, not even as a backup. The player himself is pushing to leave, as reported by La Gazzetta dello Sport this morning:
“Emerson Royal, Betis is an option. Yesterday, a meeting took place between the Verdiblancos’ management and the player’s agents. The full-back wants to leave, loan move possible.”
This would, in this case, be a return.
