Today’s edition of La Gazzetta dello Sport headlines on its front page:
"The Rossoneri tempt Retegui."
The AC Milan managers are looking for a new center-forward who can compete for a starting spot with Santiago Gimenez, and one of the most highly regarded profiles is certainly Matteo Retegui, striker for Atalanta, who won the top scorer title in the most recent Serie A season. The Italian player is valued at 50 million euros, and Milan will try to lower Atalanta’s asking price — though the Bergamo club is known for rarely offering discounts.
During a press conference at Casa Milan a few days ago, Milan sporting director Igli Tare stated:
“As for the center-forward position, we are looking for another player to compete with Gimenez, whom I consider an excellent player, but who had a normal Italian impact, needing time to adapt from a very different league like the Dutch one. Therefore, we have full confidence in him, but we also need to make another move in the center-forward role. We’re taking the necessary time to understand what shape the team will take, but we have a clear idea of the kind of player we’re looking for — someone with the characteristics of a true striker who can make the difference in the box. That’s what we’ve been missing since Giroud’s departure. We’re evaluating options both in Italy and abroad: it’s a matter of attributes, and for our team’s style of play, it’s fundamental. He must be a player with completely different characteristics than Gimenez, who is not a Giroud-style center-forward. We must be smart in combining both profiles effectively," as relayed via Milannews.it.
