Yesterday, the words of Bayern Munich’s honorary president Uli Hoeneß made headlines. When asked about the transfer market and Rafael Leão, he was quite clear in his response:
“Leão? No, no, no. Max Eberl (Bayern’s sporting director, ed.) told me he had some talks, but they were unproductive and it was never a serious topic.”
So for now, there is no doubt about the Portuguese player’s future — tomorrow he will be back at Milanello for the pre-season training camp, under the orders of new head coach Massimiliano Allegri.
This evening, Matteo Moretto clarified the situation in a video published on Fabrizio Romano’s YouTube channel, emphasizing once again that Bayern Munich never made any official offers to AC Milan. Rather, the Bavarian club — in search of a left winger — put together a shortlist of candidates that was discussed internally. Rafael Leão’s name is on that list.
With Nico Williams, their number one target, staying in Bilbao, it remains to be seen what decisions the Germans will make.
