Compared to last season, there have been some changes in the goalkeeping department at Milan. After strong interest, Chelsea has pulled out of the Maignan pursuit, and barring any major twists, he is expected to remain the first-choice goalkeeper for the 2025/26 season despite his contract expiring next June (a renewal negotiation could still be reopened).
What has changed, however, is his backup: Marco Sportiello is no longer the second-choice keeper, having returned to Atalanta, and in his place, Pietro Terracciano has arrived from Fiorentina. Lorenzo Torriani, born in 2005, has been confirmed as the third-choice goalkeeper.
The decision to bring in Terracciano came as a direct consequence of Sportiello's departure. Milan was looking for a new second-choice goalkeeper, and Terracciano's time at Fiorentina had clearly reached its end. At Fiorentina, the new backup to De Gea will be Tommaso Martinelli, born in 2006—a player the club has high hopes for and already views as a future starter.
Terracciano has signed a one-year contract with Milan, set to expire in June 2026, with an option to extend for an additional season. His salary will be just under one million euros—specifically, around €800,000, as per Calciomercato.com. The goalkeeper agreed to a lower wage in order to facilitate the move.
