The captain of Club Brugge, Hans Vanaken, reignites the Jashari-to-Milan saga with fiery words
A new episode in the soap opera surrounding Ardon Jashari and his potential move to Milan. The midfielder has long been the Rossoneri’s top target, but they have yet to unlock his arrival, currently locked in a tug-of-war with Club Brugge, who own his rights.
The Belgian side, in the meantime, left him out of their squad for their first official match of the 2025/26 season — the Belgian Super Cup, which they won 2-1 against Union Saint-Gilloise. Several figures within the club commented on the Swiss player's noticeable absence, further underscoring the impact the ongoing negotiations are having on the team.
The captain speaks out
Team captain Hans Vanaken — who played a decisive role in the victory — spoke about his teammate:
“Jashari returning to the squad on Monday? We’ll welcome him with open arms. I understand him — if I were young and in his place, I’d want to go to Milan too,” he told DAZN, as reported by gianlucadimarzio.com.
“We don’t really have another choice – as we know, Ardon is in talks with Milan and doesn’t feel ready to play for us at the moment,” the captain continued. “But the player who replaced him showed he has the qualities to take over his role. Brugge proved it can win even without Ardon. If he no longer wants to play for Brugge, we’ll deal with it — life goes on…”
“If he returns to the squad, we’ll treat him like any other Club Brugge player. Last year, he showed he’s a quality player who helps the team. If he’s willing to throw himself back into the mix for this club, he’ll be more than welcome — in fact, he’d be a real asset. But unfortunately, it’s no longer in our hands. It’s up to Ardon himself, the club, and Milan. Every player understands that — of course we do. And if for him going to Milan is the pinnacle of his career, we accept that. So do I, and so does the club. But only at the right price!"
“I admit, maybe I would’ve done the same thing at his age. But the club needs to be satisfied from a financial perspective. The fact there’s no release clause in his contract makes everything harder. Now it all depends on Milan. If they pay the €40 million our club is asking, Jashari will become a Rossonero. Otherwise…”
