Matteo Moretto, transfer market expert, expressed himself on X, updating on Milan’s negotiation for the right-back. According to the journalist, Milan has submitted an official offer for Zachary Athekame of around 7 million euros. Negotiation ongoing with Young Boys, and the Swiss full-back has already said yes to the Rossoneri club.
Who is Zachary Athekame
Born in Denmark on December 13, 2004, Athekame took his first steps in the world of football with various clubs: Athlétique-Régina FC, Olympique de Genève FC, Servette FC, Meyrin FC, until arriving at Neuchâtel Xamax FCS, with whom he made his professional debut.
In January 2024, he was permanently signed by Young Boys, who, however, left him on loan at the Neuchâtel club until the end of the season. On July 28, 2024, he made his debut with the yellow-and-blacks in the Super League, the top Swiss league, in the match against St. Gallen, coming onto the field in the 58th minute in place of the injured Blum.
A few weeks later, on September 17, the young full-back made his Champions League debut, starting the match against Aston Villa. His first goal instead came in the Swiss Cup on February 27, 2025, against Zurich.
Wearing the Young Boys jersey, the Swiss player collected 43 appearances and, indeed, one goal in the past season. On July 26, he started in the first match of the 2025–2026 league season.
Standing 180 cm tall, Athekame has good physical and technical qualities. He is especially strong in the attacking phase, while he definitely needs to improve in the defensive one.
He is a very interesting prospect with wide margins for growth, but it remains to be seen whether he is already ready for a top club like Milan, given that he has only played in Switzerland, and for this reason, his impact in Serie A might not be simple.
At the moment, however, there is still no real negotiation between Milan and Young Boys for Athekame, who, according to Transfermarkt, has a valuation of 5 million euros, a figure very different compared to Doué, who costs 30 million euros, as pointed out by Milannews.it.
