The latest offer proved to be the decisive one: Malick Thiaw bids farewell to Milan and will join Newcastle in the coming hours for around 40 million euros, bonuses included. As a result, the Rossoneri will now have to search for a new centre-back, since at present there are only three in the squad (Gabbia, Pavlović and Tomori), making another signing in that area of the pitch a necessity.
According to Corriere della Sera this morning, there are three names the Diavolo are particularly considering: Pietro Comuzzo of Fiorentina, Giovanni Leoni of Parma, and Koni De Winter of Genoa. Milan’s idea would be to sign one of the two Italian players, but both have price tags exceeding 30 million euros. They also face significant competition: for example, two German clubs are tracking the Viola defender, and yesterday, during Fiorentina’s friendly at Old Trafford, Manchester United observed him closely with great interest.
Derby with Inter in the transfer market...
As for Leoni, it’s no secret that Inter have been pursuing him for some time, although they must first sell a defender before buying. With Thiaw already virtually sold, Milan now have a head start, though convincing Parma won’t be easy, as they would prefer to keep him for another season. The third name on the Rossoneri’s list is Koni De Winter, who is also on Inter’s radar. He would cost less than the other two, with Genoa potentially ready to sell for around 20 million euros. Lastly, Milan are also keeping an eye on the foreign market, particularly in France and England.
