AC Milan's new goalkeeper, Pietro Terracciano, spoke to the media in a press conference.
What’s your relationship like with the other Milan goalkeepers?
“We have to work as a team. They’ve welcomed me really well. The coach has great experience, and I knew he would have an important approach. I was curious to meet Maignan, he welcomed me really well too, even as captain.”
Had you ever thought about coming to Milan?
“I never thought about it until there was a real chance. Everyone wants to join a big club. It’s a source of pride to be here, it’s the peak of a journey that started many years ago.”
Who was the first person you told about Milan’s call?
“I always talk things over with my family, my wife, my father. They told me to jump at it right away because it was a great opportunity.”
At Fiorentina you had a great relationship with coach Vincenzo Italiano…
“With Italiano we had built a strong relationship. Allegri is now building an important group and also a strong team on the pitch.”
What can Milan give you?
“I always want to improve, even at my age. We have to bounce back after a season that wasn’t up to standard, everyone wants to bring Milan back to where it belongs.”
Milan fans remember you for that ‘assist’ to Leao in Milan–Fiorentina during the year of the last Scudetto…
“I haven’t thought much about that day anymore. Mistakes happen, and if it’s a goalkeeper, they make even more noise. Have I talked to Leao about it? No, no—I don’t even know if he remembers it (smiles).”
What can you bring to Milan?
“I know exactly what my role is on the pitch and in the dressing room. I’ll be ready when I’m called upon.”
What do you think of young Torriani?
“I’ve only known him for a few weeks, but I can confirm he has a lot of talent. He’s never satisfied, has his head on his shoulders, so he’s got the right mentality to do well. Working with good goalkeepers here at Milan can be useful for him. His attitude is important.”
What was it like meeting Mike Maignan?
“I’ve always been curious to meet him. He’s always given me the impression of being a player with great personality, and that’s exactly how he is. Everything positive I thought about him has been confirmed. I thank him for the way he welcomed me. I can only say positive things about him.”
What’s it like changing goalkeeper coaches?
“I’ve had several coaches. It’s an important role for us. We have one of the best around, and he’ll be a big added value.”
Why did you choose the number 1?
“I’ve always used this number whenever I could take it. For me, the goalkeeper wears number 1, so I took it.”
How was your first impression at Milan? And with the fans?
“The impact was even better than I expected. With the fans, my first contact was abroad for now, and seeing so many Milan supporters was incredible. I can’t wait to see the fans at San Siro against Bari.”
Have you heard what’s happening with Gigio Donnarumma? Estupinan replied:
“I don’t know the situation. I can only say he’s one of the best in the world and won’t have trouble finding a club that believes in him. As for personal matters, I prefer not to comment.”
