Interviewed by the colleagues at Il Giornale, Brazil’s head coach Carlo Ancelotti touched on some of the most important and current topics in Serie A, naturally also discussing AC Milan and the surprise appointment of Gennaro Gattuso, his former player during his time at the Rossoneri, whom he never would have expected to see on the Italian national team’s bench. Here are some of the most interesting excerpts.

Football has changed; Parma, Milan, and Roma, your three stations of history, have foreign ownership

“Twenty years ago, I would never have imagined it. Today, Artificial Intelligence is forcing us to adapt to unpredictable changes and knowledge in every sporting discipline. But finance will never change the passion of the fans; investors bring fresh money, which football desperately needs.”

On changes: Ancelotti with Brazil, Gennaro Gattuso as Italy’s manager:

“I never imagined Rino could become the national team coach, but he has every merit to honor the role. He has character, he has personality, and I hope to meet him at the World Cup. I just didn’t expect the difficulties that Spalletti encountered.”

Serie A marks the returns of Allegri to Milan and Sarri to Lazio

“I’m happy that Milan has turned back to Allegri: he’s an important figure that the team and the club needed. Serie A has many top coaches: Sarri, Conte, Gasperini.”

On Luka Modrić joining AC Milan, Ancelotti said:

“I spoke to him; he will entertain the fans and leave his mark on the league. He’s happy with his choice, knows he can go to the World Cup, and is an absolute professional. Last year, he never missed a single training session.”
