Since Filippo Inzaghi, Milan’s attack has been lackluster. With the exception of Oliver Giroud, who was the standout figure in the 2022 title-winning campaign, the Rossoneri’s number 9 shirt (and others, too) has not had a player capable of fully honoring it. Mattia Destro, André Silva, Gonzalo Higuaín, Krzysztof Piatek, Luka Jović, and of course, the likes of Pietro Pellegri, Mario Mandžukić, Álvaro Morata, and Divock Origi, have all worn it.
Talented players, yes, but none at the level required for Milan, which, more than 13 years after Inzaghi’s departure, is once again searching for a striker who can deliver a consistent goal tally each season. This could be Victor Boniface, arriving from Bayer Leverkusen. Regarding the Rossoneri’s attacking line, La Gazzetta dello Sport ran a headline this morning:
“From Origi to Morata, the attack finds no peace"
The hope is that things will turn out differently with the Nigerian forward.
