Yesterday, Victor Boniface landed in Milan to complete his move to the Rossoneri.
The Bayer Leverkusen striker underwent very thorough medical examinations which, for now, have not provided Milan with the reassurances they were hoping for. Today, Boniface will undergo further physical tests before a final decision is made at Casa Milan, as relayed via Milannews.it
Matteo Moretto, in a video on Fabrizio Romano’s YouTube channel, provided an update on the situation. Here are his statements:
“The main figure of these transfer hours is Victor Boniface, the Nigerian striker from Bayer Leverkusen. Boniface is really one step away from Milan: the deal is 90% done. What’s missing? Passing the medicals. Let me start from the beginning: Milan, through sporting director Igli Tare, reached an agreement with Bayer Leverkusen for a paid loan of €4–5 million with a buy option set at €24 million. The total operation doesn’t even reach €30 million. Then the sporting director also agreed terms with Boniface’s agent regarding the contract: if Boniface completes the transfer, he would sign a five-year deal, structured as one year plus an additional four.”
There’s a key detail in Boniface's move to Milan:
"The deal, like all transfers, is strictly tied to passing the medical tests. In this case, Boniface’s medicals are different from those of another player because his physical history is unique, he has suffered two serious cruciate ligament injuries, in addition to other muscular problems. Milan wants to be 100% sure from a physical standpoint before proceeding with the signatures.”
Despite the detailed medicals, Milan has doubts:
“During the day yesterday, Friday, August 22, Boniface arrived in Milan at around 3:00 PM CEST. He went straight to the La Madonnina clinic where he underwent the first round of medical checks. Then he proceeded with the sports fitness certification and also orthopedic examinations. The entire process concluded around 10 PM CEST on Friday, August 22. Despite this, Milan has not yet decided whether to move forward or not. There are doubts about Boniface’s physical condition and his ability to maintain consistency. Milan wants full clarity and intends to investigate further, so today, Saturday, August 23, Boniface will undergo additional, even more in-depth tests before a final decision is made. What is certain, however, is that this first stage of medicals, carried out between 3:45 PM CEST and around 9/10 PM CEST on Friday, did not provide the guarantees Milan expected. We’ll see if today brings positive news and whether the contract signing can take place. I repeat: this deal is strictly tied to passing the medicals. Today, Saturday, August 23, is an absolutely decisive day.”
