After the victory against Bologna 1-0 at San Siro, AC Milan's centre-back Matteo Gabbia has spoken to the media in a press conference.
On Massimiliano Allegri’s dimension:
"Surely it’s a start where the defensive work is paying off. Those who played up front had an incredible match in terms of sacrifice. They allowed us to defend better. The success of not conceding goals doesn’t belong only to the defenders and goalkeeper."
Is there already a defensive idea?
"The coach gives us a basic idea, then it’s up to us to manage the moments. We started very well today in the first 20 minutes, then Bologna are tough to face."
When Massimiliano Allegri told you the lineup, were you happy to be so well covered?
"Happiness comes later. The coach makes choices and we must follow them. Today it wasn’t only a defensive match. If we had scored more, it would not have been undeserved. Ruben and Santi worked incredibly hard. This is all team work. Every player is behaving in an incredible way by following the coach."
Is this a different Milan compared to last year?
"I don’t like to make comparisons. What matters is to make sure we have many nights like this during the season."
Luka Modric is fine, but the team is young...
"The atmosphere is very healthy, there are great professionals. Today Nkunku came in, he has a career ahead of him, Ricci plays for the national team. We’re lucky to have this squad. Modric deserves applause: he’s incredible. You don’t have the fortune to know him, but he has humility, a desire to work, to improve himself, and by watching him we’re pushed to do more too."
You wore the captain’s armband... Gabbia replied:
"I’m very pleased, but I’d prefer not to have it so that Maignan and Leao are on the pitch. I want to congratulate Terracciano for how he came in, he gave us a big hand."
