A night as the maestro in place of the maestro. Samuele Ricci has a chance to start tonight against Lecce in the Coppa Italia round of 16. Luka Modric will rest, and the former Torino midfielder will lead the midfield with his playmaking.
Samuele Ricci’s first mission: win over Allegri
Tuttosport writes today:
“For Ricci, a night as Modric.”

The first goal for the 2001-born player is to earn Massimiliano Allegri’s trust. Allegri has gotten to know him in recent months and appreciates his commitment.
The newspaper notes it is no secret that the former Empoli player was secured in January by CEO Giorgio Furlani with Paolo Busardò’s mediation and that he was not a first choice for the coach or sporting director Igli Tare. Early-season decisions have limited him, keeping him on the bench in all four league matches, as relayed via those at Milan Press.
His only start came in the Coppa Italia match against Bari. In the minutes he has played, the 24-year-old has always made a positive impact, staying motivated and contributing. Over time, he could challenge Youssouf Fofana for the right mezzala spot, but for now, he will settle for one night in place of the maestro.
Samuele Ricci’s second mission: win over Gattuso
His other goal is to reclaim a spot in the national team. He was not called up by Gennaro Gattuso for early September fixtures, but Rovella’s injury could open a door for him. A strong season at Milan could secure him a place at the World Cup if Italy qualifies.
