These are the words of current Lyon coach Paulo Fonseca to Sportitalia, speaking with Tancredi Palmeri:
“If there is a sense of unfinished business with how the Milan experience ended? I don’t think much about the future, I don’t think about returning to Italy. Only for living, I would like to live there because it’s a country I like a lot but it will be difficult for me to coach there again. I think the time at Milan was a great experience, it gave me a lot. It was a moment of evolution for me, I regret how things ended. I am a person with positive feelings.”
Fonseca then spoke about Rafael Leao, with clear statements. The Portuguese coach chose not to comment directly on his former player:
“I must not interfere in Milan’s current moment. I left many friends there, as I did in Rome. They are people who stay in my heart.”
Fonseca continued on the Portuguese forward, praising his qualities, as Leao has been under fire in recent days for his poor performance against Juventus in the 0-0 draw in Turin. Fonseca said:
"I can say that Rafa could be a Ballon d’Or winner, he could be the best player in the world, but the situation right now is what it is. I don’t want to interfere with Milan’s moment."
