Commitment and work rate are not lacking, but a striker’s main duty is to score, and so far Santiago Gimenez has done so only once, in the Coppa Italia. In Serie A, the Mexican remains goalless after eight rounds, which is becoming a serious issue, especially now that Max Allegri must cope without Christian Pulisic, injured during the international break.
As reported this morning by 'Corriere della Sera', Rafael Leao has at least broken his drought, scoring three goals in his last three league matches. Gimenez, instead, keeps struggling and failing to score. Christopher Nkunku, like Gimenez, has also found the net only once in the Coppa Italia and remains scoreless in Serie A. The Frenchman has played less than the Mexican, but by late October, if two of Milan’s four forwards still have zero league goals, the issue is significant.
New reinforcements are needed for Milan in January:
Whether they improve in the coming weeks remains to be seen, but if the situation continues, Allegri expects an attacking reinforcement in the winter transfer window, a key addition to stay in the title race. The hope is that it will not come too late, because as the coach from Livorno often says, while March is when the decisive part of the season begins, the groundwork for success in January and February is laid right now.
