It already happened in mid-August in the Coppa Italia against Bari, and it happened again last night against Lazio in Serie A: a cross from Fikayo Tomori and a goal by Rafael Leao. A striker’s goal, his new role since Max Allegri took over on Milan’s bench. The Portuguese attacked the goal centrally from a wide ball, like a true number nine. He isn’t one yet, but it is undeniable he is improving a lot in this new position.
Milan star Leao dreams big:
The Italian newspaper La Gazzetta dello Sport writes this morning, also reporting Leao’s post-match words: "I’m learning. The team’s work helps me, on and off the field. My teammates understand the movements I need to make: Fikayo’s cross is something we practice in training." He is obviously ecstatic after Collu’s final whistle, and the Milan number 10 dreams big: "Scudetto? Dreaming is free, but the road is still long."
The feeling with Allegri:
The connection between Leao and Allegri is clear, and the striker never misses a chance to speak positively about his coach: "Allegri is a winner. He has won here at Milan, he has the experience to manage the locker room, even those on the bench: Loftus-Cheek and Ricci helped with the same drive as those who started." Words of a leader, another role Rafa is learning alongside being a striker.
