Massimiliano Allegri spoke to SportMediaset after Lazio defeated Milan 1-0 in the Coppa Italia, eliminating the Rossoneri.
Here are his statements, relayed by Milan News:
"Whoever wins is always right. Lazio won a match that was harder for them than on Saturday. It was a tight game, and the first to score would win. We had a chance but didn’t score, then we didn’t defend well on the corner. Jashari played a good game after a long time, Ricci did well. It’s disappointing to be out because we cared, but now we have to put it aside and focus on Torino."
A step back?
"No. We need to be angry. When we lose and are eliminated, it must hurt. At the same time, we have to look forward. Torino and Sassuolo come before the Italian Super Cup in Arabia."
What do you regret more: missed chances or the goal conceded?
"We could have defended better on the goal. We controlled the game but missed three or four easy passes. We gave away a free kick, a corner, and conceded. It also happened against Cremonese and Pisa. We become dangerous, and we need to improve."
What do you ask from Rafael Leao as a striker? Allegri replied:
"Tonight he had a good chance and moved well inside and outside the box. When he’s not there, others have to occupy the space. He played a good match and made himself available to the team. We shouldn’t get down; the season is long and the goal is to play in the Champions League next year."
A striker in January?
"We have Pulisic and Leao, who scored ten goals between them. We need midfielders and more goals from set pieces. Gimenez still has to return."
Are you superstitious? Napoli also lost to Lazio in the Coppa Italia round of 16…
"No, I feel negative people immediately. It’s still early. Do you know how many times Milan has won in Torino in the last twelve years? Only the Covid year. We will face a very tough match and will try to prepare well."
