Coach Massimiliano Allegri spoke to DAZN after Milan–Sassuolo ended 2–2. His words.
Two goals conceded, again, against a smaller side.
“Today the team played a good match in my view. The attack worked well against a set defense. Sassuolo always pose danger, then at a certain point they break games open and leave three players up front. Without ball recovery, the team has to run ninety meters back. On the first goal we needed more alertness, same on the second. Overall the performance was good, yet the team risked defeat after going up 2–1. We take this point and focus on the Supercoppa.”
On the squad profile.
“Regardless of player traits, the team delivered a good match. At the moment we sit top of the table. Whatever happens today, the position stays third after today’s games. The target involves reaching May 25 inside the top four. Work must continue and goals conceded must drop since too many have gone in. Two at Parma, two today, two at Torino, two against Pisa, two against Torino, two against Cremonese. I have nothing to reproach the players for.”
Does the Supercoppa drain energy? Would the Pulisic substitution still happen.
“I would repeat the choice without doubt. Pulisic returned in Turin after a fever and trained. He delivered seventy two good minutes. At that stage extra legs and another midfielder were needed. Loftus held his ground up front. Defensive work had to improve, more on the second goal than the first. On the first, the ball went out for a throw in and the shape stayed open. On the second, the defense stayed set. The line dropped too fast and pressure on Laurienté had to continue. Entry becomes too easy in such cases.”
On Christopher Nkunku, Allegri commented:
“Today he played well, same in Turin. In Turin he proved decisive on goals, same today on the second goal. He produced a fine move at the end and showed quality. A draw does not shift team balance. The squad traits remain clear, no hierarchy between better or worse players. Wins in every match stay unrealistic, consistency matters. Today defeat also loomed, Laurienté’s shot carried danger. The draw goes home with us. Today the feeling points to two lost points, later the value will show.”
On Gabbia’s condition.
“We will see and hope for nothing serious. An update comes tomorrow. De Winter and Odogu will be ready to play.”
