So far, Koni De Winter’s Rossoneri adventure has been anything but unforgettable. The 2002-born defender has immediately faced the step up to a top club, and the limited playing time he has been given has certainly not helped him settle in quickly. Now that opportunities are coming his way more regularly, it is up to the Belgian to take the right step forward.
How has De Winter’s season with Milan been so far?
The former Genoa player has made 11 appearances this season, starting six of them. He has been used both as Tomori’s deputy, where he has shown more encouraging signs, and as Gabbia’s replacement, a role in which he has struggled more. At Genoa he was deployed as the right-sided centre-back in a three-man defence, while at Milan he has also been used at times as the central pivot of the back line, as pointed out by those at Milan Press.
Will Koni De Winter play against Hellas Verona?
Yes. On Sunday at San Siro, he will have another opportunity to play from the start against Hellas Verona, following Matteo Gabbia's injury. He will once again line up in the heart of the defence, but he must put behind him the poor Supercoppa night against Napoli, when Højlund caused him serious problems. The time has come to take a step forward.
