Alexis Saelemaekers has certainly been one of the most proactive players of the season so far. Strongly wanted by coach Allegri, the Belgian has established himself through his self-sacrificing attitude and solid leadership qualities.
When he arrived in 2020, a young and still raw Saelemaekers struggled to make an impact. Over the past year and a half, however, first Thiago Motta and Ranieri and then Allegri have managed to bring out his talent. Thanks to this spell, Saelemaekers also looks set to earn a place in Belgium’s squad for the upcoming World Cup.
What are Alexis Saelemaekers this season so far?
So far this season, Alexis has recorded four assists and two goals across Serie A and the Coppa Italia, after returning to Milan following excellent loan spells at Bologna and Roma. A nailed-on starter for Allegri on the right side of midfield, the 1999-born player has shown he can comfortably be a first-choice option at a top club in Italian football, dispelling the early doubts, as pointed out by Milan News.
