After strengthening the attack with a physically strong striker like Niclas Fullkrug, the AC Milan club management is now working to find a new defender. The profile the Rossoneri are looking for is clear: a versatile player, able to play both as a center-back and as a full-back, preferably on loan or at a low cost. But at the club's headquarters, they are also aware that the right flank needs attention, where Zachary Athakame has so far shown too much inexperience, and a reliable alternative to Alexis Saelemaekers is needed.
Lack of a reliable alternative...
The Belgian is certainly one of the season’s positive notes for Milan, but his style requires a lot of energy, with constant running and sprints, leaving him exhausted by the end of matches. His alternative, Athakame, besides being sidelined for a few weeks due to a muscle injury sustained with the national team, has never fully convinced when called upon by head coach Massimiliano Allegri. In that area of the pitch, AC Milan needs someone ready to occasionally rotate with Alexis Saelemaekers, who has played almost every game without a break (he is Max Allegri’s most used player so far).
A low-cost solution for AC Milan's right flank?
As with the defender, the goal is to sign a player who is already ready to contribute, either on loan or at a very low cost. One of the few names linked to AC Milan in recent weeks for this role is Adam Marusic, whose contract expires on June 30 and who has been offered to several clubs, including Milan. Lazio, however, remains optimistic about reaching a renewal agreement soon, as relayed via our colleagues at Milan News today.
