How Bartesaghi quietly became a key starter for Allegri’s AC Milan

Davide Bartesaghi has now become a regular starter for Max Allegri’s Milan. Initially behind Estupiñán in the pecking order, the young academy product has gradually taken the spot from the South American winger.

Yesterday in Cagliari, he even played out of position, as a center-back replacing Pavlovic, who wasn’t feeling well, but he was present nonetheless, as relayed via Milan News.

Unlike other young players who are celebrated after every play, Bartesaghi’s rise has been quiet. Perhaps that’s for the best, because at 20, the path to becoming a top player is still long, and taking it step by step is an advantage. After the match yesterday, left-back Rafael Leao praised him: "You know what I think of him, we don’t need to say it on TV. He’s a very intelligent kid, trains very well, and is becoming very important for the team. I care a lot about him, and by the end of the season, great things will come for him. I’m happy for him," he told Sky.

Allegri's work with Bartesaghi:

This isn’t the first time a teammate has spoken highly of him, and Allegri has often praised him as well. In the summer, the coach was determined to keep him, and Bartesaghi has repaid that trust by working and training at full intensity every day. It’s no coincidence that he is now a starter for Allegri’s Milan, the right coach to help a young talent like Bartesaghi fully flourish.
