Finally together: tonight at San Siro against Genoa, in the late kick-off of the 19th round of Serie A, Max Allegri can finally start from the first minute the attacking partnership he had envisioned for his Milan since the summer, the one made up of Christian Pulisic and Rafael Leao. Because of injuries, first to one and then the other, the two have started together only once in the league this season, in the derby, which was decided by a goal from the American.
This was reported this morning by Corriere della Sera, which explains that on paper Pulisic and Leao could be one of the most prolific partnerships in the league. The former Chelsea player currently has eight league goals, while the Portuguese forward has scored six so far. Forty-six days after the last time, the two are finally ready to take the field together from the start again, even if neither is at peak fitness, as both are dealing with minor muscle issues that prevent them from being at 100 percent.
Tonight’s match is extremely important for the standings, given yesterday’s results for Inter and Napoli. Milan must win to move back to one point behind the Nerazzurri and to slightly extend their advantage over the Azzurri, who drew 2–2 away to Verona yesterday, going three points clear with a victory. For this reason, despite the fact that the Rossoneri face four matches in the next ten days, Allegri will field all his first-choice players. In defence, Gabbia and Pavlovic return, Modric is confirmed in midfield along with Rabiot, while in attack there is, as expected, space for the Pulisic–Leao partnership.
